Do You Have ESP?

Do You Have ESP? Excellent Service ProviderI do. Well at least my clients think I do.

ESP, contrary to what you may be thinking doesn’t only stand for “extra sensory perception” but also for “excellent service provider.” Ok, enough patting myself on the back. But my brand of ESP should be part of any service provider’s reportoire. All it really means is staying in tune with the latest changes and developments in your field and thinking ahead about how your clients may or may not be effected by changes and developments.

Yep, ESP is plain old anticipation of client needs. When Facebook changed the sizing parameters of their custom landing pages, I knew I would have some adjusting to do to the pages I’d created for my clients. The first thing I did was send those clients an email alerting them to the change and letting them know that I was resizing their pages.

This simple step did two marvelous things for me:

  1. Let my clients know that I was on top of new developments, changes and updates that effect them in the areas in which I claim expertise (wow, she really does know about all that stuff…)
  2. Let my clients know that I don’t just design and run. I constantly check on their web sites, Facebook pages, etc. to ensure that everything is up and running the way it should and that I’m ready to fix anything that is not working properly (wow, she really does care about our business…)

Half the battle in business is to inspire confidence in your services, and ESP – excellent service provider – is a big part of that. Keep your clients happy by

  • anticipating their needs,
  • alerting them to issues that effect them, and
  • letting them know that you’re “on it.”

Just one other thing – if you really want to be a stand out ESP’er, keep your clients up to date on anything you think may help them, even if it doesn’t directly correspond to a job that you’ve done for them. They’ll appreciate that you’re looking out for their business in general and it may just translate into more business for you.

Good luck out there!
