Its not always easy to stay positive – let’s face it, some days are better than others! But it is important to try and be positive – especially when someone asks, “how’s business?”
According to Seth Godin,
“…our performance-obsessed, live-forever society has morphed the greeting into something like, ‘please list everything going on in your life that isn’t as perfect as it should be.’”
But I think most savvy business people are more likely to accentuate – even exaggerate – the positive. “Business is great!” or “Good, really good.”
Throw-away answers. Next time someone asks you “how’s business” give them details of the good stuff that is going on in your world. “Just got a line on a new prospect” or “Writing an e-book that will be available in the fall” or “Landed a new project with a good sized fee attached.”
The more specific you get, the more real your good news will sound. Seth also says,
“Highlighting what’s working helps you make that happen more often.”
Now that I can agree with!
Stay positive, think “up” and contemplate what’s right with your world in order to attract more of the same.
